A warm, softening soak with a gentle exfoliation before your treatment. It leaves skin noticeably smoother and makes hard skin work easier, and it adds about 20 minutes to the visit. Leave it out and the visit is quicker and cheaper.

Unhurried time
No waiting room and no rushing. I walk between visits in S8, so I book an arrival window and leave walking time in between.

I am a foot health practitioner, qualified by the professional register for foot health care and licensed to carry out diabetic foot checks. I run Sheffield Foot Care on my own, so you see the same familiar face every visit.
Most of the people I see are older adults, people living with diabetes or arthritis, and anyone who simply finds reaching their own feet difficult. There is nothing embarrassing about needing a hand, and it is one of the most common reasons people ring me.
A quick word about titles
People often ask me whether I am a chiropodist. I am not, and I will always say so. I am a foot health practitioner, which covers the everyday work most of us actually need: toenails, thickened nails, hard skin, corns and diabetic foot health checks.
If something looks like it needs a doctor, an infection or a wound that is not healing, I will tell you straight away and point you towards your GP or diabetes team.

How do you remove corns?
A corn is removed by reducing the hard skin around it with sterile instruments and then lifting out the central core, which is the part pressing into the tissue underneath. It is not painful and takes a few minutes once the skin has been softened. At home you can soak the foot, file the surface skin lightly and moisturise daily, but the core sits deeper than a file can safely reach, so home filing eases a corn rather than removing it.
Can I have a diabetic foot check at home?
Yes. The diabetic foot health check is a check rather than a treatment. Deborah reviews circulation, sensation, skin and nails, then explains clearly what she has found and when to speak to your GP or diabetes team.
